SS Thistlegorm is one of the most famous wreck dives in the world. This 126-meter-long British cargo ship was built in 1940 and sank in 1941 after being bombed by German aircraft during World War II. Lost for years, it was rediscovered in 1955 by legendary explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Today, it stands as an underwater museum and a must-visit dive site in the Red Sea.
What to Expect on Your Thistlegorm Dive
Our dive trip includes two dives to explore both the exterior and interior of this historic wreck.
• First Dive: The Exterior
Descend alongside the massive hull and explore the ship’s structure, including the enormous propellers, deck guns, and twisted remains of the explosion. The wreck is now home to thriving marine life, with Napoleon wrasse, giant groupers, batfish, and barracudas frequently spotted around the site.
• Second Dive: Inside the Wreck
Enter the cargo holds and step into history, where military supplies remain preserved. Divers can see motorcycles, trucks, ammunition, spare parts, and even soldiers’ boots, giving an eerie glimpse into the past. The dimly lit interior, covered in corals and marine growth, creates an unforgettable experience.
